Veterans Having Trouble Getting Eyewear
"The Veteran's Administration is taking heat for keeping veterans
waiting for prescription eyeglasses as production bottlenecks have
created a backlog for about 17,000 veterans in six Western states," according to an NPR post. "When
Oregon veterans get their prescription eyewear though the V..A., it's
likely those glasses will be made at a government-run production
facility in Boise, Idaho. But a recent move and equipment upgrade has
the lab running months behind schedule. Rep. Greg Walden contacted the
V.A. a few weeks ago. He says he was told it would be June or July
before the agency could get through the backlog. The agency has since
revised those estimates, saying it will ramp up its output and begin
using outside contractors until it's caught up." Read more.
