good pair of shades protect against cataracts and age-related macular
degeneration both of which can be caused by too much UV exposure. And,
yes, even kids need to wear them, says Jia Lee, an optometrist at
Harvard Vanguard in Kenmore, at least ones that meet certain
standards-- not the ones parents buy in bulk as party favors. In fact, Lee says, it’s worse to wear tinted sunglasses that aren’t
designed to filter out UV rays than to wear nothing at all since pupils
