CooperVision Acquires Sauflon, Expanding Contact Lens Line

The Cooper Companies, Inc., has completed its acquisition of Sauflon Pharmaceuticals Ltd., the manufacturer and distributor of soft contact lenses and solutions. The transaction – valued at approximately $1.2 billion – gives CooperVision the ability to offer the most extensive range of daily disposable contact lens options to eye care practitioners and wearers worldwide, according to a Cooper press release.

“By adding the Sauflon portfolio …, we’re bringing forward multiple contact lens families designed and marketed for distinct wearer segments,” said Daniel G. McBride, president of CooperVision, Inc. “This approach to the market provides practitioners the ability to offer a daily disposable lens for every eye and every budget, which should further accelerate both practice growth and category momentum.”

Clariti – now part of the CooperVision range – is said to be the only brand of daily disposable silicone hydrogel lenses that spans the entire vision correction spectrum (sphere, toric and multifocal). The line complements CooperVision’s premium MyDay lens – now being launched in markets beyond Europe – as well as its Proclear 1 day lens.
