Olsen Twins Launch Sunglass Line at Oliver Peoples
"Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen rolled into the Oliver Peoples Madison Avenue boutique on Tuesday night for a party celebrating their first eyewear collaboration. Perhaps not surprisingly, given the reluctance of The Row designers to engage much with the public or the press, they have cheekily named a pair of $340 oversize tortoise sunglasses 'Don’t Bother Me,'" writes the New York Times. "'Whatever you write tonight, however the story comes together, it’ll feel like you’re writing about someone else,' Mary-Kate said to a reporter invited to cover the party. Ashley, standing nearby, nodded. The chunky glasses befit the Olsen twins for reasons other than the not-so-welcoming name, of course. They have a kind of past-meets-future look, as if they drew their inspiration from little old ladies from the 1950s but would now likely be seen on someone like Kate Moss or Jessa from 'Girls.'" Garrett Leight: Coming Out from Under the Shadow of Oliver Peoples
"Garrett Leight is the first to admit that being the son of Larry Leight, founder of iconic, 30-year-old eyewear brand Oliver Peoples, has benefited his own pursuits in the eyewear business. He learned the ropes working for his father's company after attending college in Los Angeles, and while he initially wanted to break into journalism, he came to realize that eyewear was in his blood: In 2009, he opened up an optical store (A. Kinney Court) in Venice Beach, then launched his own namesake brand in 2011," reports Fashionista. "Garrett Leight California Optical (GLCO) has grown rapidly ever since; it's sold in over 600 retailers around the world including Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Colette, Dover Street Market and Mr Porter, as well as in a flagship Garrett Leight store on La Brea in Los Angeles, with another set to open in San Francisco this year." The Return of Atticus Finch's Eyewear
“Two years ago, Anthony Peck, son of the late actor Gregory Peck, brought the spectacles his father wore as the heroic attorney Atticus Finch in the 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird to eyewear company Oliver Peoples,” reports the Wall Street Journal. “Mr. Peck was looking for a way to honor the film's 50th anniversary, as well as his father's performance. The brand's founder, Larry Leight, knew the glasses well. 'Everybody in eyewear has always admired that image of Gregory Peck,' said Mr. Leight. And with the focal point of that image in his mind, Mr. Leight created a pair of sunglasses for his own label.” Read more.
