MYKITA Sets Marketing Campaign in NYC

"The 2015 MYKITA campaign is set amidst the cityscapes of New York – at locations that open up unconventional perspectives of the metropolis: on a small city beach in Dumbo, across the roofs of Brooklyn and along the High Line, a now disused historic freight rail line elevated above the streets of Manhattan. The urban landscape comprising skyscrapers, linear facades and grey concrete provides the backdrop for the campaign, as well as an aesthetic contrast to the city’s greenery," notes Midwest Lens. "New York-based photographer and artist Mark Borthwick has been working with MYKITA for the last seven years. He invited family members, friends and professional models to become subjects for the 2015 campaign. The photographs are accompanied by poems in the traditional Japanese haiku form. British poet Nicholas Hogg composed them specially for the MYKITA lookbook, capturing three-line snap shots of a stroll through the city." Read more.

New Eyewear from Mykita

“Bernhard Willhelm is well known for his extraordinary designs, their innovative cuts and witty references to pop culture. For the Autumn/Winter 2014 season, the brand once again decided to forgo a live presentation and instead used the city of Los Angeles to stage their new lookbook. The resulting images show Bernhard Willhelm’s most recent collection alongside two new models from the Mykita & Bernhard Willhelm sunglasses range: Ursula & Erwin,,” according to Midwest Lens. “A shape traditionally occurring in smaller frame dimensions, the octagonal silhouette is blown out of proportion for Ursula. Like sister hippie-esque model Janis, Ursula features sleek details; the temples as well as the nose pads are not treated or coated. The continued use of this reduced concept streamlines the frame, and the radical lens shape takes center stage.” Read more.

New Marketing Campaign for Mykita

“Mystical moonscapes, rock formations and foreign flora and fauna provided the backdrop to the Mykita campaign shoot this year,” reports Midwest Lens. “For the sixth Mykita campaign in collaboration with artist and photographer Mark Borthwick, friends, family and models gathered on Lanzarote, an island of volcanic origin surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The stark island with its black beaches, rocky volcanic cliffs and smattering of odd-looking halophytes sets a unique scene with a truly otherworldly atmosphere. The setting – minimalist and fantastical at the same time – provided the framework for unconventional nature images, which – alongside a series of portraits taken in deserted landscapes – make up the visual language of the campaign.” Read and see more.

Forbes Interviews the “Spirits” Behind Mykita

“Forecasting the future of eyewear is not only about product familiarity.  More ingenuity and more technology seem to be the common traded views to reach modern consumer demands. Founded in Germany, Mykita has been making handcrafted eyewear since 2003. The name Mykita is derived from “Kita” (a common abbreviation for Kindertagesstätte /Kindergarden ) and is a reference to the firm’s first premises in a former day nursery,” writes Forbes. “The creative process begins with three kindred spirits behind the brand; Founders, Moritz Krueger, Philipp Haffmans, and Daniel Haffmans.  The cool allure of the product is the technical solutions; modern and lightweight materials and a precious sense of durability.  The collection is visibly approachable -with a few exceptions of effectively exaggerated styles designed to the product mix for the more adventurous consumers who prefer a character of shaded illusion.” Read the interview.

Midwest Lens reports that "For Spring 2013, Mykita eyewear drew inspiration from a particularly artistic crew: Jeff Koons and Erwin Wurm. The two new frames, titled Egon and Emil, feature sculptural elements that these contemporary artists are known for." Read more.

New Marketing Campaign from Mykita

"Instead of some exotic faraway beach, the 2013 MYKITA campaign was shot at the place where it all began back in 2003: in Berlin. Friend and photographer Mark Borthwick was responsible for the creative implementation of this tenth anniversary campaign," notes Midwest Lens. "An apartment in a typical Berlin tenement building served as the backdrop for the first portrait session. The subjects – comprising family members, friends and professional models including the likes of Werner Schreyer – were photographed against vintage furniture in light-flooded rooms." Read more.

3D Printer Sunglasses by Mykita

"The next time someone asks where you got your glasses from, wouldn’t it be fun to say, 'From the presses of a 3D printer'? High-end eyewear designer Mykita is now offering you that very opportunity with its new line of glasses called 'Mylon' created using a 3D printer," reports Geek.com. "The process used to manufacture the glasses is called Selective Laser Sintering (SRS). In layman’s terms this is just another form of 3D printing, but it is more sophisticated than the cheap plastic-manipulating machines that get most of our attention. SRS allows the use of many different types of materials, from nylon to steel, and it uses a laser beam for the extrusion part of the manufacturing process." Read more.
