CL Pioneer Dies

"Joe Goldberg died Monday at age 91. It's not surprising if his name doesn't ring a bell," reports The Virginia Pilot. "Goldberg, a local optometrist, was a pioneer of the contact lens. And while he didn't exactly change the world, his work did allow millions to ditch their spectacles - including athletes like Hank Foiles, an old-time baseball star from Hampton Roads. In 1958, Foiles - who played ball with the likes of Yogi Berra, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron - became the first big leaguer to wear contacts in a game." Read more.
