Maui Jim Gets Seal of Recommendation from Skin Cancer Foundation

Maui Jim, the premium polarized sunglasses company, has earned the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation. Maui Jim is one of three sunglasses manufacturers to have earned the seal, which is a symbol of safe and protective sun protection. The Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation is granted to sun protection products that have been reviewed by and meet the specific criteria of an independent Photobiology Committee (experts in the study of the interaction of ultraviolet light and the skin).  In order for sunglasses to earn the Seal of Recommendation, they must filter out at least 99 percent of ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation.  Read more.

Luxottica Re-Licenses Brands and Shops for New Ones

"Ray Ban sunglasses maker Luxottica expects to sign a new eyewear licence worth at least $100 million in sales starting next year, its chief executive said on Friday." That's the word from a Reuter's post. "[Andrea] Guerra [Luxottica's CEO] told Reuters on Thursday the group expects to make at least 160 million euros from the Armani licence in 2014. Asked about possible acquisitions by an attendee at the investor day, Guerra said: 'We are pretty confident that our combination of organic growth and acquisitions will continue.' The company bought U.S. online optical showroom glasses.com earlier this year. An analyst suggested it might now be looking to acquire Hawaii-based sunglasses maker Maui Jim or Danish eyewear manufacturer Lindberg." Read more.

Google Institutes Learning Centers for Google Glass Users

"New Google Glass users will no longer need to head to one of the company's offices to pick up the eyewear, but they will need to sit through a Hangout session before they can use it," according to a post on CNET. "According to Android Central, folks who join the Google Glass Explorer Program and purchase the eyewear will now have their product shipped to them. Before they start using the tech, however, they will need to sit through a Google+ Hangout with an 'experienced Glass Guide.'" Read more.

Google reportedly will release the augmented reality eyewear next year with a price tag of $1500. Microsoft is testing its AR eyewear (click for details), and others manufacturers are coming out with the their versions (click for details).

The software company also has hooked up with Maui Jim and Zeiss to provide "shades" for its eyewear. It has an "installation" guide here.  It also noted that an individual could purchase them at the Google Store, but when the link was clicked at press time, a 404 error page popped up.

Hula Dancers Introduce Maui Jim’s to NYC

Maui Jim’s “Flying Jimmy” landed in New York City this weekend, an event arranged between Maui JIm and Sunglass Hut. It will run from 10 AM to 5 PM. At nearby Sunglass Hut stores in Times Square and Herald Square, Maui Jim's hula dancers will make a visit from 1 to 3 PM each day. Maui JIm’s sunglasses reportedly cut 100 percent of UV rays and 99.9 percent of glare. Through visual experiences at The Flying Jimmy, visitors can witness how the sunglasses make colors more vivid and enable an individual to see almost glare-free. New sunglasses on display will be the glamorous Kanani sunglasses, an oversized feminine cat-eye frame, oversized nylon full-frame Ailana, as well as the rimless Hot Sands. Maui Jim Returns to the CMA Annual Awards

Returning for a second year to the backstage lounge of the 46th Annual CMA Awards, Maui Jim, the world's fastest growing maker of premium polarized sunglasses, will be showcased to some of the biggest names in country music, including Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Eric Church, The Band Perry, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Kelly Clarkson, Little Big Town and Zac Brown Band. "Competitor Group Inc. (CGI) selected Maui Jim as the Official Eyewear partner for the 2012 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. In each of the 24 events that make up the series, between 10,000 and 44,000 participate in the running events and another 100,000 tour the expo associated with the events.
